Fragrantia
Nutmeg

My bachelor’s thesis is based on a theoretical framework on the development of food depiction throughout the centuries with a focus on baroque still life paintings.

The work explores various ways of presenting food in a more artistic perspective, such as collages, scenic installations, and sexualized views on the relationship between food and the human body.

Fragrantia, Latin for scent, is thought of as a mono-subject magazine series, with each edition portraying a particular spice and its history, components, characteristics, and especially its effects on the body.

The depicted issue concentrates on nutmeg and analyses its triune use as an aphrodisiac, drug, or even poison.
